What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a modern way of straightening teeth that uses clear plastic aligner trays. Unlike traditional metal braces which are not removable and easily visible when speaking or smiling, these trays are hardly noticeable to others.
How does it work?
The aligner trays that are used are composed of a smooth and comfortable plastic that is inserted on top of your teeth. Over time, these custom created aligner trays will gradually and gently shift your teeth to get you the smile you desire. Depending on your individual need, your dentist or orthodontist will let you know how many trays you require. They will also let you know how long your expected treatment length will be. In some cases, some candidates may be able to straighten their teeth using Invisalign Express, which can take around 6 months only!
With invisalign, there are no metal wires to tighten or metal brackets to adjust. You just switch to a new set of aligner trays every two weeks, until the desired result is achieved. You can also remove the aligner trays to eat, which is not possible with traditional metal braces.
Advantages of straight teeth.
Many people choose to straighten their teeth for cosmetic purposes but having straight teeth can also improve chewing function and contribute to oral health in some cases. Straight teeth can fix issues such as crowding of the teeth which in turn, makes it easier to access and clean around those teeth. Straight teeth can also improve chewing function by positioning teeth in a way that makes them useful when chewing. In some cases, jaw pain and even headaches may be alleviated when your bite is corrected.
